The Nittany Valley Woodturners are manning our demonstration booth at the People’s Choice Festival in Boalsburg Thursday through Sunday. The April NVW meeting will be a tour of three NVW wood shops beginning at 9:00am and ending approx 1:00 pm. Shop tours will be in succession and will include topics such as shop setup, different types of lathes, vacuum chucks, drying, finishing, various tools, and more. Members and anyone interested in the tour are welcome.

The February meeting of the Nittany Valley Woodturners will feature club member and expert turner Jim Finley who will demonstrate How to Turn a Simple Bowl.

The program topics will include mounting and roughing a bowl blank, use of a scroll chuck and it’s influence on design, shaping and “hollowing” the bowl, choosing the right tool, controlling the cut, and refining the form.

Anyone interested learning the basics of turning a bowl are encouraged to attend. Jim will provide information and insight for the novice as well as experienced turners.

NVW is always looking for new members so we encourage anyone interested in learning more about woodturning to join us for what will be an educational and enlightening evening.

We had a great time at the People's Choice Festival. Thanks to all the people who came by to learn a little bit about woodturning. We had quite a few sign up for coming to our monthly club meetings.
